Back to calendar

Event Date: 07-07-2018 - Session time: 11:30:00 - Track: Red Room - Docker DBA

Speaker: David Barbarin

Abstract:

Query performance monitoring and graphical analysis

Back to calendar

Event Date: 07-07-2018 - Session time: 13:00:00 - Track: Blue Room - Cloud

Speaker: Michael Roedeske

Title: Query performance monitoring and graphical analysis

Abstract:

Based on concrete practical examples, this lecture deals with the SQL Query Performance Monitoring and the analysis with the intuitive fully graphic DBPLUS Performance Monitor ™. The lecture answers the questions: How do you quickly identify among thousands of SQL queries the basics of CPU, logical, or physical IO at a specific time or in history? How to find changing execution plans and analyze them historically over time? Which queries were executed for the first time today or are responsible for a peak load at a certain time? Which queries access a specific table? How can I compare and visualize load profiles historically in seconds? And how does that even work starting with SQL Server Version 2005 without the Query Store and no need for knowledge of DMV's?

Back to calendar

Event Date: 07-07-2018 - Session time: 13:30:00 - Track: Orange Room - Deep SQL

Speaker: Gregory Boge

Abstract:

Title: Next first steps - selected applications of R

Abstract:

You enjoyed the walk-through for R newbies, now you want to take the next steps

and get your eyes and hands on some R code?

Let's elaborate on two topics you might have seen in my "From SQL to R and beyond" presentation, plus we'll check who obeys Benford's law and who doesn't.

Here are the three subjects that this slightly code-heavy session will cover: • How to create dynamic T-SQL using R functions, for example to query your multi-company database • Visualizations in R based on shapefiles (those geographic polygons) and some choropleth technique • Applying Benford's law, which actually is not about crime and fraud, but may help you to detect them

Improve query performance with the new SQL Server 2016 query store!!

Back to calendar

Event Date: 07-07-2018 - Session time: 16:30:00 - Track: Red Room - Docker DBA

Speaker: Michelle Gutzait

Title: Improve query performance with the new SQL Server 2016 query store!!

Abstract:

The Query Store feature maintains a history of query execution plans with their performance data, allowing you to quickly identify queries that are performing slower recently, allowing administrators or developers to force the use of an older, better plan if required. The Query Store is configured at the individual database level and not on the instance level.

This session will discuss the query store and what you can do on an ad-hoc basis or regularly.

Back to calendar

Event Date: 07-07-2018 - Session time: 16:30:00 - Track: Blue Room - Cloud

Speaker: Cédric Charlier

Title: Azure Cosmos DB, un univers multimodèle et multi-API

Abstract:

Simplifying XEvents Management with dbatools

Back to calendar

Event Date: 07-07-2018 - Session time: 16:30:00 - Track: Orange Room - Deep SQL

Speaker: Chrissy LeMaire

Title: Simplifying XEvents Management with dbatools

Abstract:

Extended Events are much more powerful than any other monitoring technology available in SQL Server. Despite this potential, many DBAs have yet to abandon Traces and Profiler. Partially because of habit, but mostly because the tooling around Extended Events was less intuitive until recently.

Now, it's easier than ever to set up, control and inspect Extended Events sessions with dbatools! Not only does it simplify your basic interaction with XEvents, but it also helps solve your day-to-day problems, such as capturing and notifying deadlocks or blocking sessions.

Join DBA PowerShell MVP Chrissy LeMaire to see how PowerShell can simplify and empower your Extended Events experience. Say goodbye to #TeamProfiler and join #TeamXE with the power of dbatools.
